the International Glass and Clay show. This is the 3rd year that Sunderland, England and Washington, DC artists have come together to put on a joint Glass and Clay show. The show is opening at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery tonite at 5:30 with jazz and all that. thirteen artists from Sunderland arrived the othyesterday to install their art. Their van was hit by a fleeing criminal while driving through DC. Nobody got hurt but the van got scratched up. Erwin Timmers was driving the van full of artists. He did a great job of slowing down the crooks for a few microseconds! :) This is a picture of Edwina Chen as she is painting pedestals white for the art to sit on. The pedestals and art were shipped from England and sat in customs for a while. But the pedstals needed to be painted when they got to the gallery. It takes a lot of work to put on an art show!
The show is sponsored by Artomatic and several otehr art organizations. more info can be found at http://glassandclay.org/

The opening for F. Lennox Campello Selects Artomatic Artists is Wednesday 13-Feb-13. I have 3 abstracts in this show. It i is a great show with 35 artists and some really interesting art! Below Deborah Lash works on installing her 3 dress sculptures, Blinds Dress, Monkey Dress and Sports Jersey Dress. To the left Erwin Timmers works on installing his glass sculpture "Rebound". My 3 abstracts are on the wall behind him arranged vertically. The show runs to 22-Feb-13 Tuesday to Friday noon to $:PM. It is in the Pepco Edison place Gallery at 702 8th Street NW. The gallery is close to the Chinatown metro stop and the National portrait gallery. Come by and get some wine and cheese and see some art! :)
I started a new series of abstracts called Fire and Ice. This is Fire and Ice 1. It is 2 ft by 2 ft on plywood. I made it using it oil paint sticks and wax. The camera didn't get the colors just right, the green center stripe is brighter in reality. I have one more in the works now. Not sure how many I will make in this series, kind of depends on how things go. I suppose that's true in all of life tho. :-)
Based on an image from inside my head. Sometimes it is good to get these things out of the head and onto canvas. Or plywood in this case.

From smaller encaustic and acrylic pieces to large acrylic figure paintings, even some abstract photography teat will blow your mind. Here's a pic of some of the art being hung. This is just one small corner of the gallery. There is lots more to see than this and much better in person than my cheapo camera can show. Shop opens Friday 4-Mar-11 at &PM to 10 PM. Runs thru 27-MAr-11. Rumor has it that wine and treats are going to be provided to the art lovers who come in. This is a great chance to get original local art for your home at reasonable prices. A show this good doesn't come long every day, so don't miss it! :-)
