Celiac Disease a Hidden Epidemic
Celiac disease is a relatively unknown condition but affects about 3 million people in the USA, and many more around the world. About 1 of 133 people in the USA are suspected to have celiac disease. The problem is, most of them don't know they have it. Many doctors don't test people for celiac unless their symptoms meet an expected "normal" or standard celiac disease profile. The reality is that the normal/standard profile is only accurate in some cases. Many people who have celiac don't fit the profile and so their doctors don't test them. Another problem is the tests for celiac are not very reliable and can give false results. So it can take years to get diagnosed with celiac disease.
