This is going o be a fantastic show!   Del Ray Artisans in Alexandria has put together a bumper crop of exciting abstract art.  You don't want to miss this one.  From smaller encaustic and acrylic pieces to large acrylic figure paintings, even some abstract photography teat will blow your mind.  Here's a pic of some of the art being hung.  This is just one small corner of the gallery.  There is lots more to see than this and much better in person than my cheapo camera can show.  Shop opens Friday 4-Mar-11 at &PM to 10 PM.  Runs thru 27-MAr-11.  Rumor has it that wine and treats are going to be provided to the art lovers who come in.  This is a great chance to get original local art for your home at reasonable prices.  A show this good doesn't come long every day, so don't miss it!  :-)

The big closing party at MOCA DC is this Friday night at 6:PM to 10 PM.  Last chance to see the MOCA abstract show and get some closing party wine.  Parking under the building is $10 all night after 5:00 PM.  Or you can walk from Foggy Bottom metro.  Here is a Google Map link:

Action painting is more random than much other art.  The process is takes center stage and directly affects the resulting art.  I like action painting methods where the randomness of nature has a major influence on the art.  If you'd like to try your hand at a little action painting, you might enjoy tater art.  Take a look at he Art projects tab for ideas on how to do it.

The artdc Gallery is pleased to announce our Gallery Auction Fundraiser on December 4, 2010.  Two years ago we developed our Hyattsville Gallery project as a result from our first auction, which we hosted at the Wohlfarth Gallery.  Since then, we have developed over 20 gallery exhibitions dedicated to representing the work of Washington, DC-area artists and developing awareness of our vibrant art scene.

This is a new encaustic titled PRE-D2.  It is 12x12 inches on a hardboard cradeled panel.  This one actually looks better in person than on the web!  The surface appears to bulge in and out at various points.  This is the 2nd abstract I've done since my doc told me I might be pre-diabetic, hence the name, PRE-D2.   A little pigment, some beeswax, some damar resin, some shellac and a bit of fire to meld things into a whole.  The orange layer is the shellac which came out as a very lacy looking layer on this one.  I think  the 3-D affect is lost on the web, but it is fairly obvious in real life.

Here is a pic of a new encaustic I did that will be in the ArtDC benefit auction soon.  It is 12x12 on a cradeled panel.  The auction benefits the ArDc gallery.  ArtDc Gallery is the place to go to see work from new and emerging artists in D.C.  The auction is no reserve price (except for a few pieces) so it is a great chance to get some quality art.
